Website and Landing Pages Glossary:
User/Visitor
- A person who interacts with an app or site whose activities you measure with Google Analytics.
Session
- The period of time a user is active on your site or app. By default, if a user is inactive for 30 minutes or more, any future activity is attributed to a new session. Users that leave your site and return within 30 minutes are counted as part of the original session.
Pageview
- A pageview (or pageview hit, page tracking hit) is an instance of a page being loaded (or reloaded) in a browser. Pageviews is a metric defined as the total number of pages viewed.
Bounce Rate
- Bounce rate is the number of single-page sessions divided by all sessions, or the percentage of all sessions on your site in which users viewed only a single page and triggered only a single request to the Analytics server.
Average Time on Page
- Displays the average amount of time that visitors spend on a page of your site during each visit. The time is displayed in the hh:mm:ss format
New vs Returning Visitors/Users
- New users are those which Google determines have not visited your website previously. Returning users are those which have visited the website at least once before. This is based on whether Google Analytics detects the presence of a cookie on the user's device that indicates they have visited your website before.
Traffic Sources
- Referral traffic is the segment of traffic that arrives on your website through another source, like through a link on another domain.
- Search Engine Organic or Paid Traffic that arrives at your site through a search engine result. That result can be organic or a paid ad. E.g. Google, Yahoo, Bing.
- Display Traffic that arrives to your website from a click on an ad on the Google display network.
- Direct/None Traffic that results from someone typing in your URL (website address) directly into their browser or accessing your site through a bookmark that they have saved on their computer.
- Social traffic from social network sites.
